About Us

Edge of Alright are Suffolk based film-makers, writers and producers devoted to making boutique films for artisan makers and musicians.  Our 2023 eponymous short film 'Edge of Alright' has garnered numerous honours at film festivals around the world, including 12 Best Music Video awards.

Living in Suffolk, we are aware of the wealth of interesting, independent small businesses

that are flourishing here, and our films are a celebration of this craftsmanship, a way to get under the skin of the true artisan, exploring the ways they work and the beauty of what they produce.

Last summer we made a series of short films for Acre Farm, showcasing their micro-bakery and the making of their artisan bread. Beautifully crafted and carefully observed, the ASMR soundtrack is a gentle reflection of days spent measuring ingredients, kneading dough and baking loaves. The same treatment is given to a film we made for Kingdom Forge, but this time the video rings to the sound of hammer on steel and the roar of the forge and has already won four awards at film festivals around the world.

In our latest film, we visited the bowl maker Quentin Cowen.  Working with metal, wood, fire, air and water, Master Bowl Maker Quentin Cowen crafts mystical sounding bowls deep in the heart of Suffolk. Featuring extraordinary ethereal music of gong and bowls, the film resonates with the sounds of nature and creativity at the heart of this spellbinding transformation from matter into magic.

He started as a lighting cameraman using Super 16mm film cameras. The result is footage that is comprised of well framed, properly exposed and pin-sharp images.
